| It's just so everything... - Tuesday, November 03, 2009Hello everyone.. hope you had a great Summer. We've been busy writing over the last few months and now that we're heading in to the Fall/Winter months we will be posting a few songs on the site to compliment the weather. We don't currently have any plans to play live any time soon, but that could change. We'll definitely let you know when it does. In the mean time we plan to continue writing songs and demos for the second release.
The Bad Sleep Well is currently available on Amazon and i-Tunes. Click on the Records/MP3's link above to purchase. |
| summertime - Friday, August 07, 2009Hello all. Hope you're having a great summer. We've been doing a lot of swimming and songwriting over the past month or two and plan to continue the trend through the end of Summer. Something about jumping off the roof of a house into a swimming pool, margaritas and omnichords makes for pretty good writing inspiration. Go figure. We're in Texas.
Oh yeah... we did one other thing this Summer. Check out our Popolio pop quiz here. |
| news and such... - Wednesday, June 10, 2009So Ben's on the road to NYC as we speak.... and Ian and I are keeping busy over the Summer working on a number of projects. As you may know, we are recording an EP for the Stereo On Strike Record Label this Summer as well as releasing some B-Sides and oddities leftover from The Bad Sleep Well. We're also planning on posting some new content in the next week or so, writing, working on Moods for Moderns and just generally doing what we do... hanging out and playing music. We'll keep you posted on our progress. I'm sure we'll be roaming around town popping our heads in to a venue or two here and there over the next few months. Have a great Summer!

| last show of the summer - Saturday, May 30, 2009Hello all... After tonight's show at Amsterdam Bar we will begin our live hiatus. This will be our last show with our drummer Ben before he moves to NYC. We will be taking some time off for recording, working on finishing a few leftover tracks from The Bad Sleep Well and re-organizing our live show during the next few months. We've played with a lot of great bands over the past 12 months and have had a lot of fun in the process. We aren't planning to be off the stage for long. We are definitely going on around 9pm tonight, so come out early and say hello and be sure to stick around for the fabulous Ghostcar.

| LIVE... for now - Friday, May 22, 2009
We're playing tomorrow night at Good Records and Saturday May 30th at Amsterdam Bar to send our drummer off to New York before taking a hiatus from playing live for a while. We will be playing an extended set at Good on Saturday including a few songs we haven't played live in several years. If there's a song you'd like us to play (we've been taking 'requests' into consideration) just send us a message or post it on our myspace page. We really hope you can make it out to see Ben off. It's free and the show begins at 9pm with Blixaboy. Bring a bottle or some beer and join us.
Cheers!

| Jack With One Eye - Currently Under Construction - Tuesday, May 12, 2009We've just received news that our drummer, Ben Burt, has received a job offer and will be relocating to New York City in early June. We are currently working on booking a local show with Ben before taking a live hiatus for re-organization. We aren't sure what the future holds for Ben with Jack With One Eye, but we thank him for his tenure and wish him the best of luck. We will be announcing a show later this week to bid him farewell.

| Singing stranger pulls rabbit from trousers... Crowd responds in mono. - Friday, May 01, 2009We were surprised (and flattered) to find out yesterday that we were nominated for 4 Quick music awards. Our friends The Great Tyrant, Florene, Darktown Strutters, Boom Boom Box and Dove Hunter also share nominations. If you're interested in voting for that sort of thing, or you want to take a look at the list, stop by The Quick DFW to find out more. |
| Record Store Day - Sunday, April 19, 2009We had a great time at Good Records on Saturday for Record Store Day. Thanks to everyone for coming out and buying records. Although the outside stage had a little more than its fair share of police hassle (and they cleared the parking lot with 3 bands left to play), we have to hand it to the Good folks for handling the situation extremely well. The bands played on, the food was great, the beer was plentiful, and... they sold a ton of records. We... made a few new friends.
We hope to see you in Denton on May 8th at Rubbergloves.
We'll be playing with Handbrake and Tang Lung.

Check out the other bands on the bill as well.. we're sure you'll dig. Florene H...N

| Poster of the week! - Saturday, March 28, 2009We won poster of the week in DC9 at night for the show at the Cavern 3/28!

Here's the blurb...
"This week's featured poster is for the Jack With One Eye, Many Birthdays, The Watchers and Sarah Ruth show Saturday at The Cavern.
I don't know if the artist had this in mind, but the pajama-clad legs and generally pleasant dream scene could be a play on the title of Jack With One Eye's latest CD, The Bad Sleep Well. That CD, in case you missed the review, got some high praise in the print version of DC9 from Merritt Martin.
The designer is Mila Hamilton from Jack With One Eye, who writes: "I re-purposed some art from an old Decca album from the late 50's for this flier. =) I used something similar for a show we did with Blackheart [Society] last year..."

| 2 shows in Dallas - Wednesday, March 25, 2009
We will be in Dallas this Saturday 3/28 at the Cavern with Many Birthdays, The Watchers and Sarah Ruth as well as the following Friday at City Tavern with Florene and H...N. Please join us...
The Cavern show will be a blast of noise and textured pop melodies sure to bend a brainwave or two. We're really exited to play with/see all of the acts on the bill.
Take a minute to check 'em out... Many Birthdays The Watchers
Sarah Ruth
The show at City Tavern on Friday 4/3 will be a little more electronically charged with Florene and H...N
on the bill and will likely include a song or two in the set you haven't heard us play before... or often.
We hope to see you around soon...

Hello all...
The show scheduled for 3/13 at the Cavern was double booked, so we will not be playing this Friday in Dallas. We will be playing in Denton on Saturday 3/14 though... at 1314 Austin Street during the NorthX35 fest. It will be an all day house party with tons of bands and barbecue. You should definitely come to this one... it will be a lot of fun. For a full list of bands see our calendar. I think we're playing around 8.
cheers,

| bump - Wednesday, February 18, 2009
Hello everyone,
As you know, The Bad Sleep Well is available now on our label Obsolete Records! You can buy the album on mp3 with bonus tracks on iTunes, or if you are in North Texas, you can make the trek over to Good Records or Doc's Records and Vintage and get it on vinyl. We will also be selling 180gm's at our upcoming shows. Take a look at the calendar for show dates. Due to a shipping error we are currently working on, the record is temporarily unavailable on Amazon. We should have this problem fixed by next week.

| press - Tuesday, February 17, 2009Check out our little write up for the new album!
Pop in Jack With One Eye's debut full-length The Bad Sleep Well, and you might forget that it comes from a Dallas band. In fact, the album sounds like it would be much more suited to sport the name 4AD down the spine—and I don't mean the current incarnation of 4AD; I mean that classic, fucking-loud-in-some-spots-melodically-hooky-in-others shoegaze that would have something by Vaughan Oliver or just an image of blood on the cover. That balance of half dirt-angry, half luxurious that 4AD and bands like Slowdive, My Bloody Valentine and Lush (on a good day) were known for, is where Jack With One Eye—Mila Hamilton, Ian Hamilton (Nervous Curtains) and Benjamin Burt—excels. But that nod to the past doesn't pigeonhole Jack as out-of-date. If anything, the band has paid homage and updated that tortured and often misused label of shoegaze to something less intentionally sentimental, less faux ethereal and more powerful. The Hamiltons' shared vocals are, at times, appropriately married ("The Vultures Are Circling") and, at others, perfectly absent for instrumental forays that mold a moody hybrid of organ jazz with drone ("Theme Pour L'Obscurite") while never becoming tiresome. You could call The Bad Sleep Well ambient, angry, romantic, urgent and noisy depending on the track. But you can't call it predictable.
